I have read a lot of books about love, death, and second chances. This one is very different. This book is about more than just love and fate. It's also about how souls join over time, how pain lasts, and how hope never really dies. The book pulled me into a realm of yearning right from the beginning. This tragic and poignant location is where agony and fate meet. It's intriguing when the past and present are combined to create difficult-to-understand ideas. This inspired awe in me that kept me reading into the wee hours of the morning.
What struck me most about the writing was its emotional depth. It's unusual to come across a novel that combines romance with something deeper—an almost spiritual contemplation of what it means to actually discover someone, lose them, and then find them again. The rawness of sadness is expertly handled, never feeling forced or overdone, but rather burrowing deep into the heart of the story, making each moment of connection feel even stronger. The idea that love isn't bound by time and may find a way even under the most unexpected circumstances is one that sticks with you long after the last page is turned.
The narrative has many elements than only the love one. It's about goal, identity, and the forces invisible to us yet which direct us. The mystical components are blended in such subtlety that they never seem out of place. The way life and death are shown here—not as opposites but rather as part of the same trip—is rather eerily lovely. It made me think about the people I had lost, the moments when it felt like déjà vu, and the ways the universe seems to be giving hushed signals when most needed.
More than anything else, this book gave me hope. It never loses sight of the notion that love endures, even in its most tragic times. It's the sort of tale that inspires faith in something greater than yourself, something that defies explanation or logic. And I think that's what makes it so memorable.
Michele Pettyjohn
Michele is a retired high school teacher with twenty-five years in the classroom and has continued to volunteer and substitute teach for many years. She has watched the school environment change over the past forty-six years-and change dramatically in recent years. Michele recognizes new dangers of being in the classroom that need to be addressed, and she has a unique ability to participate in conversations about important education topics such as isolation and depression. Her new book, Always, includes a plan to assist schools and help school children in distress.
In the creation of Always, Michele was assisted by a past student, Shala, who shares her love of science as well as the distressing gift of seizures. Shala became an epileptic as a child and Michele as an adult following brain surgery. Always shares not only the stories of isolation and concern that go with having epilepsy but also highlights the experience of moving to another dimension having left the body as part of an aura experience. Always is both a story of true love and a vehicle to educate about epilepsy and its different forms and treatments.
