In the crowded field of business literature, Believe in Better: The Evolution of Core Principles That Pioneered an Industry by Damon Stafford stands out as a refreshing deviation from the conventional narrative. Unlike many business books that extol the virtues of companies with their core principles etched into their DNA from inception, Damon Stafford’s work is a testament to the power of evolution and the journey of discovery in business. This is a book for those of us who don’t have all the answers from the start but are committed to continuous improvement and learning along the way.
Damon Stafford, the CEO and founder of Alpine Intel, shares an intimate and compelling chronicle of his company’s meteoric rise from a modest start-up to an industry powerhouse with over 1,000 employees and a valuation exceeding half a billion dollars in just over a decade. His focus on people, process automation, and software development underscores a modern approach to business management that leverages technology and innovation. One of the book’s strengths is its candid recounting of challenges and setbacks. Damon Stafford does not shy away from discussing the hurdles Alpine Intel faced, including seven merger and acquisition transactions that tested the company’s resilience and strategic direction. These accounts provide a realistic portrayal of the entrepreneurial journey, highlighting the importance of adaptability and strategic thinking.
Moreover, Believe in Better: The Evolution of Core Principles That Pioneered an Industry is not just a recount of past achievements but a guide for future leaders. Damon Stafford’s experiences at Alpine Intel, combined with his prior roles at Insight Imaging, IBM, and EMC, enrich the narrative with a diverse array of insights. His dedication to process, technology, and proprietary data software, which formed the backbone of the CCG IQ (now Alpine Intel) platform, illustrates the importance of a robust technological foundation in today’s business landscape.
The author’s North Carolina roots and his educational background in Business Management from East Carolina University add a personal touch to the narrative, grounding his professional achievements in a relatable context.
