Editorial Book Review:

By Laura Zanky

The best CEOs Mark Moses knows don't have all the answers. That is not the opening you expect from a book about building extraordinary businesses, and it is precisely the right one. Moses has spent nearly two decades coaching more than 3,500 CEOs across 94 countries, and the single most consistent pattern he has observed is not what separates the extraordinary performers from the ordinary ones in terms of strategy or market positioning. It is whether they have the courage to be coached.

Built to Win BIG is the distillation of everything CEO Coaching International has learned from those thousands of engagements, and the stories at its center are the ones that matter most: CEOs who were days from bankruptcy and came back. Leaders who scaled from $70 million to $3 billion. Founders who turned near-fatal setbacks into extraordinary exits. Moses tells those stories not as inspiration but as instruction, pulling from each one the specific decisions, disciplines, and frameworks that made the difference.

What makes the book feel genuinely different from the crowded field of CEO leadership titles is the humility at its foundation. Moses competed in twelve Ironman Triathlons, including the Hawaii World Championship five times, and that background is not incidental. The discipline of an elite endurance athlete, the understanding that performance at any level requires both structure and external accountability, runs through every framework he presents. Nobody wins alone is not a motivational slogan in this book. It is a documented operating principle with specific evidence attached.

The 90-Day Challenge framework gives readers an immediately actionable structure for applying the principles, which is the difference between a book that inspires and a book that changes behavior. Moses clearly knows which one he is trying to write.

For CEOs who are ready to stop being the ceiling of their own organizations and start building something that grows beyond what they can personally produce, this book is the clearest and most practically grounded guide currently available to what that actually requires.
