Editorial Book Review:

Here is a number worth sitting with. Roughly 70 to 90 percent of mergers and acquisitions fail to deliver the value they promised. That is not a fringe statistic. That is the consistent finding across decades of research and industry reporting. And yet the deals keep happening, the announcements keep being celebrated, and the hard work of actually making two organizations into something better than either was alone keeps getting underestimated until it's too late to fix.

J. Michael Coffey has spent thirty years on the other side of that failure rate. As CEO of H-E Parts International and Manitex International, he guided more than 38 acquisitions across four continents, scaling businesses through local execution in markets as different from each other as the cultures they operate in. G.A.L.E. Force is what he learned from all of that, and it is the most practically grounded M&A integration guide currently available from someone who has actually done the work at scale.

The central argument is both simple and consistently underestimated: most acquisitions don't fail because of the deal terms or the financial modeling. They fail because of what happens after the ink dries, when two companies with different cultures, different rhythms, and different unwritten rules have to figure out how to become one. Coffey's G.A.L.E. framework, which stands for Growth, Alignment, Leadership, and Execution, gives that integration challenge a structure that is concrete enough to be actionable and flexible enough to work across radically different markets and cultures.

What makes the book feel genuinely different from other M&A guides is the cross-border dimension Coffey brings from lived experience. Global strategy and local culture are not in tension in his framework. They are the whole point. The companies that scale successfully across borders are the ones that understand that local execution is not a compromise of the global vision. It is how the global vision actually gets realized.

For CEOs, private equity professionals, and operators navigating cross-border growth, this book is the practical playbook the field has been missing.
