Editorial Book Review:
By Lauren Myers
There’s something deeply haunting about the way this story unfolds, lingering in the quiet spaces between love and loss, between what is said and what is left unspoken. The narrative carries a dreamlike quality, pulling me through the lives of two people whose connection is both undeniable and impossible, spanning years, places, and emotions that shift like the tide. The weight of their shared history looms over each interaction, tinting everything with wistfulness and longing.
The thing I liked most about the writing was how well it showed how relationships change over time: how love can be both a rock and a storm, how memories shape our present, and how timing is often the most unpredictable force of all. The prose is lyrical and deeply evocative, making every scene feel tangible, every emotion raw and unfiltered. The alternating timelines and perspectives create a beautiful rhythm, allowing the reader to fully immerse in the emotional complexity of the characters’ journeys.
The novel isn’t just about romance; it’s about the fragility of time, the choices that define us, and the way we are shaped by both our regrets and our moments of courage. There’s an aching sense of inevitability in the story, yet it never feels hopeless. Instead, it's a thought about how love endures—sometimes quietly, sometimes furiously, but always in a way that lasts beyond the short moments we share.
By the end, I couldn't help but think about my own life and the "what-ifs" and "near-misses" that we all have. That’s what makes this book so powerful—it’s not just a love story, but a deeply human one, reminding us that sometimes the most meaningful relationships exist in the spaces between certainty and possibility. It left me with a bittersweet sense of appreciation for the imperfect, unpredictable nature of love and fate.
About the Author
Nataša Dragnić

Nataša Dragnić was born in 1965 in Split, Croatia, where she grew up with a view of the sea from her childhood bedroom window. At eighteen, she left her hometown to pursue a degree in German and Romance studies in Zagreb, earning a master's degree in literature in 1995. She also completed a degree in diplomacy in both Zagreb and Berlin, but soon realized that diplomacy was not her calling—there was too much politics. Longing for the sea once more, she returned home, only to leave again in 1994 to settle in Erlangen, Germany, where she continues to work as a freelance foreign language instructor. She teaches German as a foreign language, French, English, and Croatian, and is also fluent in Spanish. Her love for languages has shaped both her career and her creative pursuits.
From a young age, Dragnić was drawn to the world of storytelling and performance. As a child, she would lock herself in the bathroom—without a view of the sea—and practice making faces in the mirror, acting out emotions, gestures, and entire dialogues. During her university years, she took her passion to the stage, performing in front of live audiences—a love that has stayed with her ever since.
Her journey as a writer began early. At the age of six, she wrote her first poem, a four-verse piece about an apple that remained unpicked until it shriveled and fell. Four decades later, in 2011, her debut novel, Jeden Tag, jede Stunde (Every Day, Every Hour), was published by the German publisher DVA. The novel gained international recognition, selling in more than 20 countries even before its official release.
Dragnić's deep appreciation for literature and storytelling extends beyond her own writing. She shares her passion through workshops and lectures, inspiring others to explore the power of words. With her linguistic expertise and talent for capturing the complexities of human emotions, she continues to craft stories that resonate with readers worldwide.
