Editorial Book Review:

By Maya Towers

Killer Flowers: A Cozy Mystery (Christie's Flower Shoppe Cozy Mysteries Book 1) by PJ Peterson is a mystery that is both comforting and interestingly sharp. It mixes the secrets of small towns with the quiet language of flowers. At first, it's just a simple story about reopening a flower shop that people love. But it quickly gets a lot more interesting. The story begins with a strange death, a past that is buried, and a store full of flowers that mean something. These things keep readers interested from the start.

Reading this book feels like stepping into a charming main street where every friendly smile might hide a secret. The tone is friendly and welcoming, but there is always a sense of tension that makes you want to keep reading. The reader feels the same mix of worry, determination, and curiosity as Christie does as she tries to clear her name and figure out what really happened. The experience is light enough to be comfortable, but it's also interesting enough that you keep wondering who you can really trust.

At its heart, the story explores ideas about community, memory, and the way the past quietly shapes the present. The town itself almost acts like a character, filled with personalities, history, and whispers that refuse to stay buried. The use of flowers and their hidden meanings is also interesting because it reminds readers that even the smallest gesture can have many layers of meaning and feeling.

The author has a smooth style that fits the cozy mystery world perfectly. Scenes move at a comfortable pace, giving the setting and characters time to breathe while still moving the mystery along. The flower symbolism gives the story a clever twist by turning simple bouquets into clues and quiet messages. It adds a fun puzzle-solving element to the story that fans of the genre will enjoy.

The last few pages of the book give you the satisfying feeling of having been to a lively town where mysteries grow as easily as roses. It has charm, curiosity, and just the right amount of mystery to make readers want to go back to Christie's shop again and again. This is a great place to start for anyone who likes cozy mysteries with heart and personality.

About the Author

PJ Peterson

PJ Peterson began writing mysteries after she retired from her career as an internal medicine physician. It was a natural choice she says, considering that a doctor is simply "a detective wearing a white coat and a stethoscope."

Her Julia Fairchild Mysteries features Julia Fairchild, MD, a smart and curious young doctor who is much braver than the author (who has yet to try skydiving). She has her first brush with death in Blind Fish Don't Talk. Starting with Rembrandt Rides a Bike, younger sister Carly Pedersen enters the stage...in more ways than one. This series includes a touch of humor with her sidekick sister providing much of that. And given her medical background, PJ sprinkles in something related to health or disease whenever it fits the story.

After seven Julia novels, she was itching to play with more characters and started a new series--Christie's Flower Shoppe Mysteries. Young Christie O'Mara has reopened her recently deceased grandmother's flower shop in the town where she grew up. The florist shop website advertises she can create bouquets with hidden messages. In several cases, the unintended message was murder.

The Global Book Team recently awarded Killer Flowers, the first book in the second series, a Gold Medal in the Cozy Mystery category. Killer Wedding and Killer Anniversary are available now with Killer Ghost at the editing stage.

She hopes you will give her books a try, and write a review wherever you share your opinions!
