By Lauren Myers

This novel rapidly immerses readers in a compelling story set in a near-future civilization where violence and technology coexist in unexpected ways. The story revolves around an adolescent murderer who makes money with drones while surviving in a world dominated by cryptocurrencies and digital surveillance. An elderly mafia hitman, meantime, sets out on a perilous quest to find the adolescent, bringing them both to a confrontation that will alter their familiar world.

What captivated me most about this book was the seamless blending of high-stakes action with deep, philosophical questions about technology's impact on society. The story moves quickly, with every turn challenging one to put the book down. Beyond the pleasures, though, the narrative looks at disturbing facts about digital anonymity and the widening gulf between virtual contact and personal connection.

The way the authors paint the dark side of technology without preaching was incredibly refreshing. Clearly, they were asking readers to consider the consequences of our current dependence on digital instruments, not only about a future world. The most impressive thing about the characters was how complicated and relatable they were even while they engaged in illegal behavior. It is much more than just an action-packed thriller because it deftly explores the core themes of morality and surviving in a technologically advanced world.

The action sequences were intense and well-choreographed, often leaving me on the edge of my seat. But it wasn’t all fast-paced drama; the characters’ internal struggles, especially the hitman’s reflection on his past and the teenager’s decisions in a morally ambiguous world, added emotional depth. This balance of action and introspection was what made the book stand out from other thrillers in the same genre.

This book is great for people who like futuristic fantasy that makes you think about the future, right and wrong, and the cost of progress. The story is fast-paced and makes you think. You'll be hooked from the start to the end. The writers have created a world that seems just plausible enough to be scary, while still keeping the story exciting and giving us a look into a scary future.
