5 STAR REVIEW
It will be the adventure of a lifetime for Carrie Brinkley... if she makes it to the end alive.
When Carrie loses her job and boyfriend during the opening weeks of the pandemic, she’s determined to reset her life in a positive direction. The answer? A solo, two-month, cross-country bicycle trip from Virginia Beach to Mendocino, California.
Yet dangers lurk that she’d never anticipated. During Carrie’s idyllic journey across the continent, her greatest danger comes not from her encounters with angry animals, road hazards, or the elements. Something much worse stalks her—something much too human.
Pedaling West, written by Coe Sherrard, is an enthralling novel that keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end. It is a gripping tale of self-discovery, crime, and personal growth that follows the journey of Carrie Brinkley, a young woman who sets out on a solo bike adventure across the country. Along the way, she finds herself embroiled in a financial fraud-turned-murder crime spree that challenges her in ways she never imagined.
Carrie starts her journey from Virginia with the aim of finding herself and gaining a better understanding of who she is. However, fate has other plans for her, and she is unwittingly drawn into a dangerous game of deception and lies. As she pedals her way across the country, she discovers truths about herself and others that she never knew existed. She learns to overcome her fears and emerges as a strong and mature individual, surprising everyone, including herself.
Throughout the novel, Sherrard weaves an intricate and authentic tale that captures the reader's attention from the very first page. The plot is full of suspense and intrigue, and the characters are well-developed, making it easy for readers to be on the characters' side or not. Sherrard's writing style is engaging and fluid, making it difficult for readers to put the book down.
One of the most impressive aspects of the book is how it explores the themes of personal growth and self-discovery. Carrie's journey is not just about physical endurance; it is also about finding the courage to face her fears and confront the unknown. It is a story that resonates with readers of all ages, as we can all relate to the struggle of discovering who we are and what we want out of life. This is the undertone and the overarching theme of the book, though it does sometimes get overshadowed by the suspense aspect.
Nonetheless, Pedaling West is an exceptional novel that is sure to captivate readers from all walks of life. It is a story about self-discovery, courage, and personal growth, and it is sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who reads it. Sherrard has created a one-of-a-kind story that readers will enjoy from the first few pages until the last. Certainly an interesting journey of a book.
