Bruce H. Bailey



Dr. Bruce Bailey began his career in the renewable energy field while working as a research associate at the University at Albany’s prestigious Atmospheric Sciences Research Center, where he earned tenure. Among multiple responsibilities at the Center, he participated in New York State’s first renewable energy and energy conservation feasibility studies, which became building blocks for the state’s nation-leading energy program. 


Following his research achievements, Bruce founded AWS Truepower LLC, an international meteorological and engineering consulting firm dedicated to serving the energy industry for more than thirty years. Under his leadership, the firm fostered strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including developers, state and federal agencies, utilities, transmission system operators, banks, and manufacturers. This collaborative approach enabled him and his team to gain unique insights into the complexities and dynamics of the energy sector.


Among the pioneering accomplishments of AWS Truepower were the development of advanced tools for high-resolution wind and solar resource mapping and analysis. The firm also delivered project-specific sub-hourly and daily energy output predictions for the utility industry and implemented innovative atmospheric measurement techniques for both land-based and offshore environments. Bruce was actively involved in industry conferences, technical workshops, and standards committees, where he championed multidisciplinary collaboration and collective problem-solving.


Eventually, AWS Truepower was acquired by UL Solutions, where Bruce assumed the role of vice president of renewables. In this capacity, he broadened his international engagement within the renewable energy community. Though now retired from UL, Bruce remains active in the field, continuing to maintain valuable connections with the University at Albany, Cornell University, and the wider industry.
