Editorial Book Review:
By Lauren Myers
There’s something wildly refreshing about a story that refuses to take itself too seriously while delivering sharp social commentary, and this book does exactly that. It’s a wild, satirical ride through history, bending the lines between espionage, comedy, and sheer absurdity. The idea of a killer whose favorite weapon is seduction and whose target is one of history's most famous people was enough to hook me, but it was the author's razor-sharp wit and fearless way of telling stories that kept me reading.
Many brave, sometimes silly, but always smart jokes are used. It pokes fun at common plot points in war stories, spy stories, and even people in general. The scenes were sometimes so silly that they made me laugh. But underneath the humor, there is a smart look at power, manipulation, and desire. The conversation is clear, the pace is steady, and the situations are strange enough that I keep turning the pages to see what might happen next.
What I appreciated most was the seamless blend of history and fiction. There’s enough historical detail to ground the story, but it never becomes weighed down by facts or accuracy. Rather, it manipulates past to create something novel and unforeseen. The well-written action scenes are tense but always have a humorous undertone. The plot seems to be playing a joke on itself, even during the most intense parts, which adds to its enjoyment.
It’s rare to find a book that balances humor and action so well, and even rarer to find one that does so with such originality. The writing is sharp, the premise daring, and the execution flawless. Whether it’s the unpredictable plot, the sharp humor, or the sheer originality of it all, this is the kind of book that sticks with you long after the final page.
About the Author
