Editorial Book Review:

By Fabiana Simmons

Most business books treat generosity as something you do once you've already won, a nice gesture for companies that have made it past the point of struggle. Rick K. Jones flips that order entirely. The Business Tithe argues that giving isn't the reward for success. It's part of the mechanism that creates it, and after four decades of building businesses across very different industries, Jones has earned the right to make that case.

Reading this book produces a particular kind of recalibration for anyone who has internalized the idea that profit and purpose live in separate compartments, with purpose getting whatever is left over once the real business of business is done. Jones doesn't ask readers to choose between the two. He shows, with real specificity, how a 10 percent post-tax giving model becomes woven into the actual operating logic of a company, shaping culture, customer loyalty, and decision-making in ways that compound over time. The framework feels less like an add-on and more like a different operating system entirely.

What gives the book its weight is that Jones isn't writing from theory or from a single success story he's trying to generalize. He's spent forty years across sponsorship marketing, brand building, and multiple agencies, and that range shows in how concretely the seven-step framework is laid out. This isn't an inspirational concept dressed up as a business book. It's an operational model with the inspiration built into its foundation rather than sprinkled on top.

The faith dimension is handled with a light enough touch that the book never feels exclusionary, even as it speaks directly and unapologetically to Christian entrepreneurs who want their values and their balance sheets to actually align.

For business owners who have sensed that something was missing from the standard growth playbook without being able to name it, this book names it, and then shows exactly what to do about it.
