Editorial Book Review:
By Marcos Buttler
A mystery with science, baking, and an amateur detective who didn't mean to look into a crime is just too much fun to refuse. There is just the right amount of mystery and fun in this book, which makes it enjoyable to read from beginning to end. The story revolves around a chemist whose quiet world is upended when a murder shakes her workplace, forcing her to use her analytical skills in an entirely unexpected way. The way she approaches the mystery—methodical, logical, and with just the right amount of skepticism—feels refreshingly unique.
The contrast between the precise world of chemistry and the unpredictable nature of human behavior adds another layer to the mystery. There’s a real sense of discovery throughout, both in terms of unraveling the crime and in the protagonist’s own personal growth. It's interesting to see someone who is used to working with formulas and controlled settings step into a world full of lies, secrets, and possible danger. It's not just about finding the killer; it's also about figuring out how to get along with others, guessing their goals, and knowing who to trust.
In addition to the puzzle, the book has some great funny, warm, and even romantic parts. There's something really charming about how relationships develop, whether it's through jokes, shared beliefs, or meeting new people and becoming friends. Of course, having a playful cat along for the ride makes the story even better. The side characters feel fleshed out, each adding their own quirks and complications to the puzzle, making the world feel immersive and full of life.
What stood out the most was the way the protagonist’s scientific expertise played a role in the investigation. As opposed to finding signs by accident, she uses what she knows in a way that seems both natural and smart. The mystery is well-thought-out, with turns that keep the story going while stillallowing characters to grow. For the journey to get to the end reveal, it's satisfying in and of itself.
This cozy mystery is smart, fun, and quickly paced. It adds something new to the genre. It has a great mix of smarts, humor, and mystery, making it a great choice for people who like stories with a bit of science and a lot of personality.
