Editorial Book Review:
By Natalia Miles
The Purple Ribbon by Kip Lyman is a profoundly moving examination of the indomitable human spirit, identity, and resilience. Lyman invites readers into a world where hardship and hope coexist, revealing how courage and compassion can emerge even in life's darkest corners, with grace and emotional acuity. Her narratives are imbued with an authenticity that immediately resonates, providing a mirror through which readers can confront their own pain, healing, and purpose.
Lyman's prose is both poetic and grounded, seamlessly interweaving vivid imagery and heartfelt dialogue to create a sincere pulse in each scene. She creates a rhythm that is both tender and raw, achieving a harmonious balance between forward movement and introspection. Each word is deliberate, directing readers through the emotional landscapes of love, loss, redemption, and the delicate act of beginning anew. Her narrative technique, which is both immersive and restrained, establishes an intimacy that fosters empathy without sentimentality.
The power of perseverance and the quiet bravery found in everyday acts of kindness are the fundamental themes of The Purple Ribbon. It is a narrative that explores the beauty of reclaiming one's voice and acquiring the ability to view pain not as a hindrance, but as a catalyst for change. Lyman delves into the themes of forgiveness, grief, and inner strength with a moral clarity and nuance that prompts readers to contemplate the ways in which we support one another during life's challenges.
The emotional resonance of this novel persists beyond the final page. Lyman's words evoke a sense of renewal, serving as a reminder that love and grace can be discovered in the midst of brokenness. The Purple Ribbon provides a poignant and ultimately hopeful journey through the fragile, radiant truth of being human, providing readers with a story that uplifts while challenging the heart.
Kip Lyman's novel is a luminous and stirring work that solidifies her status as a writer with profound emotional intelligence and empathy. The Purple Ribbon is not merely read; it is deeply-felt and unforgettable.
About the Author
Kip Lyman

Kip Lyman was born and raised in Connecticut and relocated with her family to South Florida during her pre-teen years. She built a successful career as an executive assistant and director of marketing, and she holds a U.S. utility patent and several design patents—an uncommon foundation for a fiction writer.
Eventually, Kip turned her passion toward storytelling. Drawing on her life in Florida’s tropics and her keen interest in human psychology, she wrote her debut novel, The Purple Ribbon, which emerged from a nocturnal creative surge.
When she’s not writing, Kip enjoys golf, gardening (where “ideas and florae grow wild”), adventurous pursuits such as hang-gliding and scuba diving, and dedicating time to volunteer service, particularly in her role as a foster parent and Guardian ad Litem.
