Editorial Book Review:

By Lauren Myers

Being in relationships and setting boundaries has always been hard for me, but this book has changed how I see them. As an example, the author used a house, where each room showed a different level of trust and unity. This gave the abstract idea of boundaries a concrete and approachable feel. What really struck me was how powerful it felt to think of my relationships as a "house" where I decide who can come in and how far they can go.

This book really got to the heart of what it's like to deal with bad relationships and the guilt that comes with putting yourself first. The useful tips on how to handle these situations with ease and clarity made sense and were comforting. It also dealt with tricky habits like gossiping and copying, both in other people and in myself, which I liked. It made me think about how my past events affect the way I act and interact with others now, which was something I hadn't done before.

But what really struck me was the focus on self-awareness. The author says we shouldn't blame others for crossing limits; instead, we should look at where we failed to set them in the first place. Moving my attention from blaming others to empowering myself was a big deal for me. The relatable examples and compassionate tone made even the most uncomfortable truths feel manageable.

The metaphor of “rooms” made the content memorable and easy to apply. It’s not just theory; it’s a tool I can use in daily life. Whether it’s creating a “foyer” for acquaintances or allowing a few trusted people into my “kitchen,” it helped me categorize and manage relationships without the guilt or confusion I used to feel.

This book isn’t just about keeping people out—it’s about letting the right people in and finding peace in the balance. The combination of heartfelt stories, practical advice, and an empowering perspective makes it a must-read for anyone struggling to find harmony in their relationships. It’s not only a guide; it’s a call to take ownership of your emotional space and create a life where you thrive.
