Editorial Book Review:
By Tony Collins
Elizabeth Stoots's "Viola's Blossom" is a powerful story about love, identity, and the hard decisions that make up our lives. This story takes place in a small town, Viola Pendleton is a young woman who is torn between what her family wants her to do and her strong feelings for Harlin Granger, a rebellious biker with a strange past.
Stoots digs deeply into Viola's inner battle to produce a narrative beyond the traditional "good girl meets bad boy" cliché. As her connection with Harlin gets closer and more intense, Viola Pendleton must make a difficult decision: should she follow the safe, advised road her parents have laid out or choose love, even if it means distancing herself from all she has ever known?
When Viola learns that her father's office is looking into Harlin's motorcycle club, the Venom Vipers, the tension erupts. Viola is forced to make a decision by this realization that might permanently alter her life's path. Readers will find it difficult to stay detached from Viola's path because of Stoots' genuine and intense depiction of this battle.
"Viola's Blossom" is a powerful coming-of-age story about finding yourself, being devoted, and making sacrifices for love. Every page of this book is rich, the writing is vivid which pulls readers into the lives of the author's complex, fully realized characters. The shocking ending makes this story a wonderful experience.
It is important to highlight that Stoots handles tough topics like abuse, violence, and self-harm within this book with care and awareness, making the work more subtle but real. She has proven herself as a writer and this novel is a testament to her storytelling prowess.
